About Cotty Lizama, LMFT

Specializing in Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychotherapy

My Educational Background
My educational background as a psychotherapist includes a Masters in Science in Clinical Psychology from San Jose State University, from where I graduated in 2007. My Bachelors degree is in Psychology with a Minor in Child Development also from the same University, from which I graduated in 2005. I am a clinical member of CAMFT, which is the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. I have worked in different therapeutic settings, providing counseling to children, adolescents, and families in the community. I have provided group therapy focused on self-esteem, bullying and intolerance, social skills, and anxiety.

My Interests
My interests and training for the services I provide include utilizing strategies and techniques with evidence based practice that includes behavioral work for diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, trauma, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, among others. I also utilize in my clinical work, understanding challenges with a values based, communications approach to better understand the meaning of your behaviors that are expressed through language. I provide a supportive environment with attention to the therapeutic structure. I provide interpretation and in depth analyses of your presenting suffering, pain, stressors, and difficulties to better understand the meaning of your behaviors that are impacting your current well being. By participating in the therapy process, you will have an opportunity to learn to connect to your pain differently, and learn ways how to respond differently to what is getting in the way of the life you want to live.
